At Mercer Island Family Eye Care, we are pleased to offer a wide range of optometry services for our community! Our experienced optometrists provide you with thorough eye evaluations, determine if you need corrective lenses and your exact prescription strength. Our trained opticians will fit you with the appropriate specialty eyewear, and help you pick out the most flattering pair of glasses for your face shape and skin tone.

Eye Exams

Our detailed visual and eye health exam includes a complete general health and eye health examination with the doctor to determine any existing medical conditions and understand patient’s lifestyle. This will allow our doctors to find the optimal solution for your visual needs as well as determine if certain health conditions may cause visual problems. At the end of your visit you will be provided with a precise updated prescription for distance, intermediate and near visual needs.

General Eye Health

We perform eye muscle movement/coordination testing to check how both eyes work together. If eyes don’t work well as a team you may experience fatigue or eyestrain. We also check external and internal ocular health screenings for infections, allergies, abrasions, cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other retinal abnormalities.

Visual Field Testing

Visual field testing reveals changes to your peripheral vision. This is helpful in detecting possible glaucoma and any neurological defects.

Non-contact tonometry (NCT) testing or “the air puff test” is used to measure intraocular pressure or the pressure inside the eye. This is a very important tool that optometrists use to screen for glaucoma and other ocular defects.

Retinal Photos*

Retinal imaging is used to screen and diagnose various ocular conditions. It is extremely useful in documenting changes in eye health over time and for monitoring retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, hypertensive retinopathy, and more.

Children’s Eye Exams

Eye examinations are for children 3 years of age and older. The exam will often include detection for possible congenital color vision disorders. We recommend school-aged children come in annually for their eye exams to maintain good eye health.

Contact Lens Evaluations*

Contact lenses are considered a medical device and should be evaluated and updated by an eye care professional annually.

Contact lens fittings are for new and experienced patients, and include a comprehensive ocular health check to determine if there are any complications to wearing contact lenses and to determine the best type of contact lens on the market that will best fit your eyes and visual needs. You will have as many complimentary trial contact lenses and follow up visits as needed to determine a satisfactory contact lens prescription.

For new contact lens wearers we provide one-on-one contact lens training so that you can comfortably put them on and remove them safely at home.

Available for purchase are soft disposable contact lenses (sphere, toric, multifocal, extended wear, and tinted or cosmetic contact lenses) as well as hard or rigid gas permeable contact lenses.

Office Visits

Office visits are available for eye issues that may or may not contribute to sight related issues, including eye infections and other medical conditions of the ocular area.

Surgery Co-Management

We work with other doctors and opthamologists for refractive surgery co-management (including lasik and cataract surgery) to provide optimal outcomes.

Prescription Accuracy

Our office takes pride in the quality and thoroughness of our eye exams. If in any way your prescription eyewear is not providing you with the vision you desire, please do not hesitate to call our office for a complimentary prescription recheck within 3 months of your last exam.

Complimentary Adjustments

Mercer Island Family Eye Care understands that life happens and it may alter that initial perfect fit of your eye wear after you leave our office. Whether it’s from your kids, dogs, accidents, or travel, we are happy to adjust your eye wear. We do not want our patients to be walking around with eye wear that is uncomfortable or crooked, so please swing by our office and have one of our staff adjust them correctly again!
